Open Educational Resources for Faculty

Open Educational Resources (OERs) are teaching and learning materials that you may freely use and reuse at no cost, and without needing to ask permission. OERs have been authored or created by an individual or organization using a Creative Commons license or other permission to let you know how the material may be used, reused, adapted and shared. OERs range from textbooks to curricula, syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, tests, projects, audio, video and animation. For students, OERs offer free access to some of the world’s best courses and educational content. They can also offer huge cost savings as alternatives to expensive textbooks.

The guide provides guidance on copyright basics for faculty and students, tips for online delivery of content, information on fair dealing, eReserves and Creative Commons' licenses.

The Open Educational Resources research guide, which resides on our library's homepage, defines OER, provides key OER repositories and offers a listing of relevant, authoritative potential textbooks for instructors to review in the areas of mathematics, health, engineering, skilled trades, business, communications and more. Faculty and students are free to review all of the resources in this guide and make recommendations.
