Evaluating Information

A key skill of Early Childhood Educators is to locate and evaluate information for professional practice and to shar with parents/caregivers.  Whether your information is an article from a subscription database or from a website, make sure you evaluate it carefully.  Consider

Timeliness (when)

When was the informaiton created and has it been updated?  Is it current for your purposes?

Reliability (how)

Are the author's sources documented? Is the information peer-reviewed?

Authority (who)

Are the author's credentials and experience stated? Is the author qualified to write on the topic?

Who is the publisher of the information?

Purpose/Point of View (why)

Why was this informaiton created - educate, sway, sell, misinform?

Is there a identifiable bias?
