What is online tutoring?

Tutoring is a FREE service for all Georgian students. We support your learning by reviewing tips that will enhance your learning skills.

Tutors are other post-secondary students who have achieved high academic standing and have been recommended by faculty.

How can I access online tutoring support?

Book an appointment with the Tutoring Advisor to review your tutoring needs. If it is determined that tutoring is needed, you will be matched with a tutor within five (5) business days.

  1. Taking a program from Barrie, Orillia, Midland, Muskoka, and Orangeville? Click to make a calendar appointment
  2. Taking a program from Owen Sound or South Georgian Bay? Click to make a calendar appointment
  3. Appointments can last up to 30 minutes.
  4. All appointments are in Eastern Standard/Daylight Savings Time (EST/EDT). Use a time zone converter to select the best time.

I'm not located near any of the campuses. Can I still get a tutor?

Of course! Tutoring is available online. Just make sure to consider your time zone if you're not local and that of your tutor to make sure you don’t miss an appointment. Here’s a time zone converter to help with matching times.

How many hours of tutoring can I get?

If you are eligible for tutoring, you can receive one hour per week. Tutoring is not available in the first or last week of the semester.

How is online tutoring provided?

You and the tutor determine the best method that works for both of you. Some options are listed below. To learn more about an online platform, check out their website.

Can a tutor help me with my assignment?

No. Tutors are not allowed to assist you with your assignment or assessment (test, exam, etc.). Tutors are required to report academic misconduct to their Academic Success team lead. Review Georgian’s regulation on academic integrity for further information.

What can a tutor help me with?

Tutors will coach you using tips and strategies to improve and build your learning and study skills. Each tutoring session will have specific and realistic goals that you help create.

Tutors must always adhere to Georgian’s academic integrity philosophy.

I don’t think I need a tutor but maybe a little support. Are there any other resources?

Can I hire my own tutor?

If you choose to hire a tutor not from the college, make sure you negotiate a contract. The contract should include how many hours of tutoring, pay rate, how long each tutoring session is, start and end date of contract, etc. Don’t forget that you are responsible to maintain the academic integrity of your work.
