Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for a book or article to arrive via interlibrary loan request?

The book or article may take between 2 to 10 business days.

What if I do not have all the citation information required on the interlibrary loan request form?

Ask library staff for assistance.

Can I borrow my textbook on interlibrary loan for the semester?

No, textbooks are not borrowed through interlibrary loan. Please see the Georgian Store for your textbooks.

How can I check the status of my interlibrary loan item?

Send an e-mail to ILL@GeorgianCollege.ca and provide the information of your request and they will let you know the status.

How do I cancel my interlibrary loan request?

Please email ILL@GeorgianCollege.ca. and include the request information.

How long may I keep an item?

The due date is set by the lending library and must be returned by the date provided on book band.

A lending library may recall, ask for the book to be returned, before the due date. In this case we will contact you and the book must be returned as soon as possible. If you still need the book, we will look for another library to borrow it from.

What if I need the book for longer? Can I request a renewal?

It will be stated on the book band if renewals are allowed. In some cases, they are not.

If they are allowed, email ILL@GeorgianCollege.ca and we will contact the lending library to find out if an extension is possible and let you know.

Will I be charged fees for overdue interlibrary loan items?

Yes, late fees are added to your library account. Please see the Library's Loan Periods & Overdue Fines for information about current late fees.

What if I lose an Interlibrary Loan book?

If an interlibrary loan book is lost or damaged, the user is responsible for all replacement or repair costs. These costs are determined by the lending library. Very overdue items will be assumed lost.
